If you’re still having errors, well…sorry! If you have any other suggestions on how to get past the error, post in the comments. Enter rescue mode (Google to find out how), and do a file system scan / restore.
=> Maybe there’s a non-critical file system corruption on your PS3. => Delete a few GB of data (maybe downloaded games) that you could part with (didn’t try) => Unplug your Ethernet connection / turn off wireless (this is what did the trick for me!) => Unplug all USB devices other than your backup harddrive (did not work for me) * If you’re not and you got an error, here are some tips on how to fix it (pulled from ): If you’re lucky it’ll just work and there’s nothing else you need to do (except wait…). If you don’t see this option, you did something wrong! Go figure it out! If you have a valid target, you should be able to choose a USB device to backup to (obviously make sure the backup drive will be able to contain the data on your PS3). * Go to System Settings -> Backup Utility -> Backup. It’s free, it’s very easy, and it works. If you’re familiar with this, SwissKnife no longer works for Windows 7 I recommend “MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition”. There are plenty of guides out there that will explain it. If you have no clue what I just said, a simple Google query should be all you need to do. That is, you will need to reformat your drive or add a partition that is FAT32 format.
* PS3’s backup target must be a USB drive and it must be on a FAT32 file system. When performing a backup on your PS3 if you get one of these errors, try to do the following: Today, however, I finally found the solution (well there may be many). In the past, Google didn’t back me up much and provided no solution to get past the problem. I have tried on three separate occasions to do this and all have failed with the dread error: “The backup operation could not be completed. 800283E1”. So cool, there’s a way to backup your data, but.what if it doesn’t work? Well, that’s been exactly my problem. In the event of your PS3 dying, you can restore “most” of your content back to the system (all DLC must be redownloaded). PS3 has the ability to do a system backup to USB not the greatest solution, wish you could run it automatically or run it over the network, but it’s better than nothing. No Sony! I want to be able to play the games I’ve already purchased! *grumble* *grumble* Anyway… It doesn’t want you playing old games on its system, it wants you to buy them again through PSN…. This is a very compelling thing, and one that Sony wishes you didn’t know about. The whole reason I’m trying to keep the 60GB alive is that it’s the only model that works on all PS1, PS2, and PS3 games. Thinking I may be close to a point where the little guy will keel over, I’m trying to be a little more proactive with my p-r-e-c-i-o-u-s save data. I probably could do a better job at cleaning him, but that’s not the point of this post… He’s already died three times while in my possession. The 60GB (original model) PS3 is a fragile little beast. So it’s been almost a year and a half since my PS3 died, and I just have this strange feeling it’s getting ready to kick the bucket again.
